Services of Hope is a Texas Non-Profit currently serving communities and students in Dallas, Amarillo and Houston. I witnessed the impact of their literacy, character and connections program first-hand during the summer of 2010 & 2011.
This 2,400 mile unsupported solo bicycle ride from Austin Texas to Portland Oregon exists to raise support for Services of Hope and inspire people to re-connect with their neighbors near and far.
Three years ago I rode solo from Austin to Dallas, and it changed my life. I wanted everyone to be able to experience seeing both urban and small-town America from a bicycle seat. A web-experience is a poor proxy, but the best I can offer my readers and friends who don’t have the time or energy for a long bicycle trip.
I am riding from Austin, TX to San Francisco, CA between April 26th & July 9th 2015. The route will cover Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California, average riding 6 days a week/ 40 miles a day.
Hopefully this blog can be an inspiration for you to join me in the journey of strengthening connections between communities separated by background and situation, so together we can empower disadvantaged students to succeed, enable whole cities to flourish, and grow together as neighbors.
Please consider donating at Crowdrise/TheConnectionTour 100% of your donation less 3% transaction fee goes straight to Services of Hope. The Cost of the trip has been covered from my personal savings.
